Why I’m Running

Shawn Poland is stepping forward to serve Ward 9 at a pivotal moment for our city. Now living in the Long Lake area, his connection to the community is both personal and longstanding—shaped by his experiences in local schools, sports, and decades of involvement in community organizations.

“I grew up in Sudbury, and my family’s roots are in Coniston. This community has shaped who I am. I planned to come back for one year, and three decades later, I’ve built a life here, raised a family, and dedicated my career to helping our city grow and succeed.

With new opportunities in mining, critical minerals, and major infrastructure, Greater Sudbury is entering an important period of growth. We need leadership that is thoughtful, responsible, and focused on getting it right for residents.

I’m ready to bring my experience to Tom Davies Square and serve Ward 9, and all of Greater Sudbury.”
